Acceptable Use and Content Policy
Standwell Web is for honest small businesses. Nearly every shop will never need this page. It sets out what is welcome, what cannot go on a shop, and what we do if something does.
1. Not allowed on a shop
- Illegal goods and services: anything that is illegal to sell or offer where you or your customers are, including illegal drugs, stolen goods, unlicensed weapons sales, counterfeit goods, and services that break the law.
- Marijuana and THC products: selling or promoting marijuana, THC or CBD products, even where state law allows them.
- Selling firearms and ammunition online: a gunsmith, range, instructor or similar business is welcome to describe its services, but a shop may not sell firearms, ammunition or regulated firearm parts online through Standwell Web.
- Hate and harassment: content that attacks or dehumanizes people for their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or similar traits; threats, or harassment of a person.
- Adult content: pornography, sexually explicit material, or sexual services. Any sexual content involving minors is forbidden and will be reported to the authorities.
- Other people’s rights: photos, words, logos or designs you do not have the right to use, counterfeit or knock-off goods, and content that breaks someone’s privacy (for example, posting another person’s private details).
- Malware and phishing: harmful software, links to it, pages that pretend to be another business or ask for passwords or payment details by trickery.
- Scams and deception: fake businesses, prices or goods you do not intend to provide, or pyramid schemes.
- Violence: content that promotes violence, terrorism or self-harm.
We support most kinds of honest business. Some of the limits above come from the rules of Stripe, our payment processor, not only from the law; Stripe lists them on its restricted businesses page. Until we can offer another way, those rules are where we must draw the line.
2. Welcome here: wellness, natural and craft goods
Vitamins and supplements, herbs and teas, natural and alternative remedies, mushroom products, essential oils, handmade soaps and balms, and unusual or exotic craft goods are all welcome on Standwell Web, as long as they are legal to sell where you and your customers are.
You can share your own view of what your products do and why you like them. We do not decide whether a health claim is true, and a complaint from a competitor alone is not a reason for us to remove something.
Please keep your claims within what the law allows for your products; you are responsible for what you say about them. We do not write the laws, but we must follow them when required, so we will remove or pause content when a court or government agency orders it, or when the law otherwise requires us to. If a claim on your shop brings legal action against us, you agree to cover our costs, as our Terms (section 11) explain, so please be mindful of what you post.
3. Using the service fairly
- Do not try to break into accounts, get around limits, overload the service, or scrape it.
- Do not use Standwell Web to send spam or to host files for use elsewhere.
- Do not point a web address at us that you do not control.
4. What we do
If a public shop breaks this policy, we may pause it. A paused shop is hidden from visitors, who see that the shop is not open right now; we do not tell visitors why. You will see a note on Your shops asking you to contact us, and we will explain what needs to change where we can. Once it is fixed, we unpause it. Every pause and unpause is recorded.
For serious or repeated problems, or where the law requires it, we may remove content, close the shop, or close the account, as set out in the Terms of Service. We may report illegal content to the authorities.
We do not review every shop before it goes live, and we are not responsible for the content shop owners publish.
5. Reporting a shop
If you see a shop that breaks this policy, email [email protected] with the shop’s web address and what is wrong.
This includes takedown complaints, for example a photo of you used without your permission, or your private details posted on a shop. We handle these promptly. While we look into a complaint we may pause the shop, which hides it from visitors, and we will tell the shop owner what was reported and what needs to change. Once the problem is fixed, or if we find nothing wrong, we unpause it.
6. Copyright complaints (DMCA)
If you believe a shop uses your copyrighted work without permission, send a notice to our designated agent with:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- the work you say is infringed;
- the web address of the material on the shop;
- your name, address, phone number and email;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent or the law; and
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.
Designated agent: Standwell Web, LLC, Attn: Copyright Agent, Platteville, CO 80651, phone 720-939-5013, email [email protected].
When we get a complete notice, we take down or pause the material and tell the shop owner, with a copy of the notice.
Counter-notice. If your material was taken down and you believe that was a mistake, send our designated agent a counter-notice with:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- the material that was taken down and the web address where it was before;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith the material was taken down by mistake or because it was misidentified;
- your name, address and phone number; and
- a statement that you agree to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you are outside the US, any district where Standwell Web may be found), and that you will accept service of legal papers from the person who sent the original notice.
We send the counter-notice to the person who sent the original notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have gone to court to stop the use, we put the material back within 10 to 14 business days after we got the counter-notice.
Repeat infringers. We keep a record of valid copyright notices, and we close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe.
Sending a notice or counter-notice that you know is false can make you liable for damages.
7. Changes
We may update this policy as new problems come up. See also our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
